Character's Backstory: Born to a wealthy family in the western regions of France with many prospects given to him from his early life. A family owning a number of farms and wineries, a number of prestigious titles were theirs, along with quite mountainous profits - allowing Edward the childhood any might wish for. Growing up a spoiled and insulated child, his hardest experiences were with ritzy boarding schools and making friends, which weren't very difficult. Often an ingrate and aloof, his father has many times sent him to live a 'hard' life supported in whatever city struck Edward's fantasy at any point in time. At each point in this tid-for-tat tug-of-war with his father, Edward would handle himself well enough to enjoy his father's support, and chase after women and parties all the same. Satisfied by this, Edward was brought back into the fold of the family once his father had seen that he had the sense to take care of himself - despite the obvious aid of financial backing.
It was when Edward began college that they would butt heads again.
Edward pursued a degree in business, seeing it as getting paid for screwing with people that had too much to keep track of anyways. This was as his father intended, with the thought of leaving the family assets to Edward after his death. Though, Edward also enrolled in a double-major program and had provided Art as the optional major. Edward, having always been comfortable in life, saw no reason to pursue something that he enjoyed - seeing as how he had all cushion of financial stability. This upset his father, who didn't want his son pursuing frivalous aims for the rest of his life. In a particularly heated argument, the two stood at odds before Edward returned to college to finish his education.
Upon returning to his home, Edward found his father quite upset with the abstinence his son showed, and demanded that if he wanted any part in his intended inheritance he would have to prove his worth to his father. Planning to send his son to attain a third degree and a private connection to someone already in the field, Edward's father planned for his son to become an established art appraiser for the Modern Art Museum of Paris. Unfortunately, this did not suit Edward one bit - and instead of accepting his Father's will on principle, he decided to make demands of his father for once.
In this act of defiance, Edward requested a large amount of funds to help plan a large party for an associate of a friend and alumni, a wealthy art dealer operating a show-room out of Kiev. Taking a handsome sum of money into his own private accounts, Edward left quickly after making several preparations and heading for one place that his associate had told him about.
The Zone.
Figuring the possibility of financial success in such an environment, needing only the capital to exploit such a shift, Edward pursued his chance with gusto - taking up the popular moniker, Trader Ed. Time has now passed since, and Trader Ed has managed to make a comfortable living with slow steady profit in his time with the Stalkers.
Character's Method of Supply: Given a considerable sum for what was intended to be a suire' in Kiev, valued at roughly 100,000 Rubles after the expenses required to reach the Zone and do so safely; by this time, Trader Ed has tripled his investment - valued at nearly 225,000 Rubles.. Operating out of parceled out sums to avoid ever being mugged for all of his value, Trader Ed has kept a safe leash on his supply. Operating primarily out of mercenaries who approach secondaries in cities within the Ukraine and Russia - exchanging valuables or currency - to then return to Trader Ed. A careful eye, trained and educated, as well as a life time of observing financial transaction, has enabled to the unlikely slob Edward to be very successful as Trader Ed.

That response was almost as eloquent as a quote from Hellen Keller.
